Cancer screening
Oral cancer is becoming increasingly common. We promote oral cancer screenings to try and ensure early detection and treatment. Early diagnosis can improve survival rates by up to 90 percent.
We advise adults over the age of 40 to attend an oral cancer screening appointment every year. The screening process is quick, simple and pain free. During the test Dr Williams will examine your mouth and check for any signs or symptoms of oral cancer. The test will take just a few minutes but could make a world of difference.
Risk factors for oral cancer
If caught early, oral cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer. We stongly advise patients who smoke, drink alcohol, or those with family history of oral cancer to attend routine screenings. People who smoke, chew tobacco, and drink alcohol on a regular basis are at a much greater risk for developing this disease.
Look out for signs and symptoms
Many people are unaware of the signs and symptoms of oral cancer. As a result they may experience symptoms without knowing it which and their condition may not be diagnosed until much later. Common symptoms to look for are white and red patches in the mouth, mouth ulcer and sores that don't heal for awhile. As well as abnormal swellings in the mouth or throat.
